Buyers paying over $3,000 complete a one-time BitPay ID check, so we train staff to mention it up front

How it works for jewelers

Want to accept crypto at your jewelry store? TapCrypto sets it up so buyers pay in crypto and you get US dollars, with no crypto on your books. Your rates and fees are set by the processor, and we will walk you through every step, from the application to your first live sale and staff training.

BitPay's retail page names jewelry among the merchant types it serves, and it locks the exchange rate when the invoice is created, so a quoted price on a ring doesn't move while the customer pays (BitPay). Settlement goes to your business bank account in US dollars the next business day.

A few details matter at the jewelry counter. Buyers paying more than $3,000 through BitPay complete a one-time BitPay ID identity check, so we train staff to mention it before the customer starts (BitPay compliance). New BitPay accounts start at $10,000 per day and $500,000 per year, which covers most single pieces. BitPay also requires an active website that shows what you sell, with terms and privacy pages.

Who uses crypto? In Pew's January 2026 survey, 40% of men aged 30 to 49 and 27% of adults in upper-income households said they had ever used crypto (Pew Research Center). Our setup includes a counter sign and window decal so those shoppers know they can ask. For pieces under $5,000 we may set you up on Flexa's iPad app instead. See our guide to accepting crypto or compare with coin and bullion dealers.

Which processor you'll use

We route by your average ticket: under $5,000 goes to Flexa (1% flat, iPhone/iPad app) and $5,000 and up goes to BitPay (2% + $0.25, next-business-day USD settlement).

Flexa: everyday tickets

  • 1% flat fee, with no setup or conversion fees (Flexa)
  • Flexa Point of Sale app on any iPhone or iPad (Flexa docs)
  • For small and mid-size tickets, under $5,000

BitPay: big tickets

  • 2% + $0.25 per transaction under $500K/month (BitPay pricing)
  • US dollars to your bank the next business day, locked exchange rates, and no chargebacks as a BitPay feature (BitPay)
  • For tickets of $5,000 and up

Processor fees are set by BitPay and Flexa and can change. Crypto fees are not always lower than card fees, so we compare against your own statement rate. Processors approve or decline merchants, not us.

FAQ

What happens if a crypto customer returns a ring?

Refunds go through the BitPay dashboard and are done by an owner or manager, never in cash or from a personal wallet. BitPay refunds may require the customer to complete BitPay ID.

Is BitPay ID required for every sale?

No. BitPay asks buyers paying over $3,000 to complete a one-time BitPay ID check.

Can a jewelry store accept crypto for an engagement ring?

Yes. A jewelry store can accept crypto through BitPay for pieces of $5,000 or more, or Flexa for smaller pieces, and receive US dollars.

Do I have to hold crypto?

No. Payments settle in US dollars, and we never touch your funds.

Will this save me money versus cards?

Not necessarily. Crypto processor fees can be similar to card rates. We compare against your own statement and don't promise savings.
