How it works for restaurants and bars
Want to accept crypto at your restaurant or bar? We set up a simple tablet checkout beside your register, and you get paid in US dollars. Your rates and fees are set by the processor, and we will walk you through every step, from the application to your first live sale and staff training.
Restaurant and bar checks are usually small, so Flexa is the usual fit. It charges a 1% flat fee with no setup or conversion fees, and its Point of Sale app runs on any iPhone or iPad, so it can sit next to your existing POS (Flexa). Flexa describes "guaranteed settlement at the time of authorization" (Flexa docs). Its bank settlement timing we haven't verified yet, so we confirm it during setup.
If you already run Square, its bitcoin acceptance is another option: 0% through December 31, 2026 and 1% from January 1, 2027, bitcoin only, with a $600 maximum per transaction (Square).
Training for servers covers starting a payment, confirming it's paid before closing the check, and what to do if a guest underpays. Sales tax still applies to the dollar value of the sale; confirm specifics with your CPA. See our guide and salons and med spas.
Which processor you'll use
We route by your average ticket: under $5,000 goes to Flexa (1% flat, iPhone/iPad app) and $5,000 and up goes to BitPay (2% + $0.25, next-business-day USD settlement).
Flexa: everyday tickets
- 1% flat fee, with no setup or conversion fees (Flexa)
- Flexa Point of Sale app on any iPhone or iPad (Flexa docs)
- For small and mid-size tickets, under $5,000
BitPay: big tickets
- 2% + $0.25 per transaction under $500K/month (BitPay pricing)
- US dollars to your bank the next business day, locked exchange rates, and no chargebacks as a BitPay feature (BitPay)
- For tickets of $5,000 and up
Processor fees are set by BitPay and Flexa and can change. Crypto fees are not always lower than card fees, so we compare against your own statement rate. Processors approve or decline merchants, not us.

FAQ
Can guests tip in crypto?
The guest pays the amount you key in, so include the tip in that amount. Tip handling then follows your normal payroll process.
I use Square. Do I need Flexa?
Not necessarily. Square's bitcoin acceptance caps transactions at $600 and supports bitcoin only. Flexa supports more coins. We can help you compare.
Can a restaurant accept crypto without changing its POS?
Yes. Flexa's Point of Sale app runs on its own iPhone or iPad next to your register.
Do I have to hold crypto?
No. Payments settle in US dollars, and we never touch your funds.
Will this save me money versus cards?
Not necessarily. Crypto processor fees can be similar to card rates. We compare against your own statement and don't promise savings.
